Why does the date change by timezone?

A principal lunar phase occurs at the same instant worldwide. Its local clock time—and sometimes its calendar date—depends on your timezone. The table follows the timezone you select, including daylight-saving changes.

Are these moonrise times?

No. These are the principal phase instants: new Moon, first quarter, full Moon and last quarter. Moonrise, visibility and the apparent angle of the Moon depend on your observing location.

How are the dates calculated?

Phase events are calculated with Astronomy Engine 2.1.19 and displayed to the minute. The Moon symbols are schematic. This page does not model eclipse shadows.
